Sunderland's EU funded building hosts Cabinet meeting

Sam Coates, Sky’s leading political journalist is in Sunderland today to report on the Prime Minister holding a Cabinet meeting at The National Glass Centre. SRNews managed to get an exclusive interview with Sam Coates.

SRNews journalist Owen Valente asked Coates how do you feel that Boris Johnson is holding a cabinet meeting in the National glass centre which is a partly EU funded building?

Sam said: “Clearly there is something ironic about that, Boris Johnson has decided to come here to Sunderland to make a political point but clearly the heritage of the building suggests that there is more to the politics than perhaps number 10 are aware of.”

In 2016 after the UK voted to leave the European Union, Sunderland was the first of many to have a leave majority. After several push backs and two different Prime Ministers the UK has finally came to a deadline to leave the European Union tonight at 11pm.

The National Glass Centre is funded by the Arts Council, The University of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear Development Corporation, European Regional Development Fund and Sunderland Council. The glass centre represents a key part of Sunderland’s history with glassmaking by bringing together its religious, social and industrial heritage.
